Quotes of the Week

I started watching the OA on Netflix this week, it is so incredible, really clever and beautiful. Here are my favourite quotes from this week:

“It is an uncanny feeling, that rare occasion when one catches a glimpse of oneself in repose. An unguarded moment, stripped to artifice, when one forgets to fool even oneself.” – Grace, The House At Riverton

I would love to be able to see myself from the outside, we’re so tough on ourselves these days but we would never be that mean to one of our friends, it would be nice to see all our own little quirks and our genuine smile, not posing for a picture but in our natural state.

“Remember the pain, pain is good, it means you’re out of the cave.” – Jim Hopper, Stranger Things season 3 episode 8

This whole episode broke my heart but this quote really got to me, it’s so true! When you’re out there living you can feel!

My biggest mistake was thinking if I cast a beautiful net then I would only catch beautiful things.” – Prairie, The OA season 1 episode 2

Such a powerful quote and a very powerful show. There are so many layers of genius to unravel!

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Quotes of the Week

I’ve had a good week, I’m close to finishing The Clockmaker’s Daughter (and all my quotes are from it) this book is so beautiful, I don’t want it to end!

He’d lost his way, but hope still fluttered in and out of focus like a bird, singing that if he kept putting one foot in front of the other, he might just make it home.” – Leonard, The Clockmaker’s Daughter

This is so beautiful and I reminded me of Emily Dickinson’s poem “Hope is the thing with feathers, That perches in the soul, And sings the tune without the words, And never stops at all.” Leonard was a soilder in WWI and has PTSD, he found hope in a heartbroken artist and the house he loved so much.

All past is present.” – The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton

When I first read this I thought about how old memories are present wherever we are, like ghosts, all the people that have come before us left their emotions floating in the air.

One generation passes to the next a suitcase filled with jumbled jigsaw pieces from countless puzzles collected over time and says, ‘See what you can make out of these.’” – Birdie, The Clockmaker’s Daughter by Kate Morton

Adults don’t know what they’re doing either, a chilling realisation! As a child we think everyone has it all sorted out we trust the adults in our lives to guide us but it doesn’t always end well as Birdie will tell you! This also reminded me of ASOIAF quote “It all goes back and back,” Tyrion thought, “to our mothers and fathers and theirs before them. We are puppets dancing on the strings of those who came before us, and one day our own children will take up our strings and dance in our steads.”

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Quotes of the Week

This week has been super hot, I’ve tried to sit out in the garden with a book as much as possible! Here are my favourite quotes of the week:

She was clearly intended to be the pawn in this game. But I am a queen, she thought. Able to move in any direction.” – Juliet Armstrong, Transcription by Kate Atkinson

This quote is so empowering, definitely going to add it to my mantra for when I start spiralling.

“She always left a gathering, no matter how intimate, feeling depleted as if she’d accidentally left behind some vital layers of herself she’d never get back.” – Elodie Winslow, The Clockmakers Daughter

This summed up being an introvert so perfectly. I love having meaningful and deep conversations with people but big groups or dull conversations are like hell, I just feel awkward.

Hope you have a lovely summer weekend!

Quotes of the Week

Another rainy week here in England, I’ve been watching the Womens World Cup to keep we occupied and reading of course, here are my favourite quotes from the week:

“They were parcelling the impossible height into manageable sections. Just like time. That’s how we survive infinity, we kill it by breaking it up into small bits.” – Pyramids by Terry Pratchett

I love the imagery in this and it’s true, we get through days by taking them an hour at a time, that’s what I do at work anyway!

“It was all such a waste of breath. War and peace. Peace and war. It would go on for ever without end.” – Transcription by Kate Atkinson

This is so sad, the book is set during WWII and the Cold War and this quote broke my heart. Somewhere in the world terrible things are happening and it’s never ending.

Quotes of the Week

It’s summer! Unfortunately I’m stuck at work today but I had a lovely beginning of the week in the sunshine. Here are my favourite quotes from this week:

“It’s one thing to destroy Democracy. It’s another to destroy the monster you replace it with.” Spooks 5×02

This quote gave me chills which was the intention I believe. Although our government here in the UK sucks right now, at least we have the opportunity to choose them and hold them accountable for their actions.

“We have language, we invent, we analyse, we build cathedrals and cities and society. We write music and poetry, we fall in love. Aren’t we lucky, to be alive, to have life. Isn’t every tiny moment an inexplicable delight, packed with potential.” – Anne Lister, Gentleman Jack episode 2

Sometimes I loose all hope in humanity, but this quote gave me hope. This show is so important and I love every second of it.

Hope you all have a good weekend!

Quotes of the Week

I’ve had a nice peaceful week (after the GoT finale aired) it’s been lovely weather here and here are my favourite quotes this week:

There is no point in delaying crying. Sadness is like having a vicious alligator around. You can ignore it only for so long before it begins devouring things and you have to pay attention.” – Why Is This Night Different From Every Other Night? by Lemony Snicket

This is so true, bottling up any emotion is terrible for you. This description makes so much sense!

If we wrapped up against the cold, we wouldn’t feel other things, like the bright tingle of the stars, or the music of the Aurora, or best of all the silky feeling of moonlight on our skin. It’s worth being cold for that.” – Seraphina Pekkala, Northern Lights

This part made me smile imagining what it’s like to feel the moonlight on my skin, it almost made me cry, it’s so beautiful.

Quotes of the Week

I hope you’ve all had a good week, here are my favourite quotes from this week:

“Inside every sane person there’s a madman struggling to get out. No-one goes mad quicker than a totally sane person.” -Terry Pratchett, The Light Fantastic

This quote really shook me!

“It’s meaningless. It’s just dread. As if my time of reckoning has come.” – Nicci French, Saturday Requiem

The woman is talking about her anxiety and the whole passage resonated with me but especially this part.

Quotes of the Week

I hope everyone has had a lovely week, my favourite quotes this week are:

“I guess that’s what death is isn’t it? Forgetting, or rather, being forgotten.” Samell Tarly, Game lf Thrones 8×02 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

This quote was so powerful. The whole episode was brilliant but that line really hit me.

Riding with her were a number of swarthy men that will certainly be killed before too long anyway, so a description is probably not essential.” – Terry Pratchett, The Light Fantastic

The humour in this book is brilliant, this made me laugh. I love Pratchett’s style of writing.

Have a good Sunday everyone!

Quotes of the Week

It’s finally sunny! I’ve had a lovely start to the weekend with my family, I hope your Easter weekend is just as lovely. Here are my favourite quotes this week:

Time was a thief, he stole your life away from you and the only way you could get it back was to outwit him and snatch it back.” – Kate Atkinson, Case Histories

This quote is so chilling, I love the way it refers to time as a person.

“I used to think you were the cleverest man alive.” Sansa Stark, Game of Thrones 8×01 Winterfell

Sansa is talking to Tyrion, I think we all thought he was one of the cleverest, but when it comes to his family he’s way too trusting. I loved Sansa’s sass and confidence in last weeks episode.

“I’m waiting for an old friend.” – Bran Stark, Game of Thrones 8×01 Winterfell

This line was one of the best of the whole episode, he’s waiting patiently in the freezing cold for the man that threw him out of a window. Bran may be really weird at the moment but he’s still got a sense of humour!

Have a great Easter weekend everyone!

Quotes of the Week

It’s almost Game of Thrones season 8 time! That’s all I’ve really been thinking about this week! I’m very excited but also terrified…

“This one’s been killed six times you don’t hear him bitching about it.” – Sandor Clegane, Game of Thrones 7×06 North of the Wall

I have a love hate relationship with the Hound but this line makes me laugh so much. Gendry was whining that the Band of Brothers had betrayed him and Sandor just came out with this. It’s quite a serious episode so it’s nice to have the light moments in there.

“The lone wolf dies but the pack survives.” Sansa Stark, Game of Thrones 7×07 The Dragon and the Wolf

I love this quote so much in the book and the show. The Starks are finally back together, I just want them all to be safe, send help!

Hope you have a great weekend!
