Top Five Tuesday is back! It’s now being hosted by Meeghan reads, I’m very excited this is back, I’m not very good at posting without prompts! I wanted to thank Shanah at Bionic Book Worm for all her brilliant prompts and work on T5T!
This week we’re looking at books where something went wrong.
1. The Reptile Room (A Series of Unfortunate Events) by Lemony Snicket
Of course in every book in ASOUE something goes wrong but The Reptile Room is one of my favourites, I like it because the children are happy for a lot of the time, they have a guardian who is kind and looks after them but then Count Olaf shows up again and ruins their lives once more.
2. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K Rowling
Harry has a tough time in most of the series, but when Voldermort tricks Harry into chasing him through the Ministry of Magic everything goes wrong. All Harry’s friends are in danger and when the Order of the Phoenix arrives Harry looses one of the most important people in his life.
3. La Belle Sauvage (The Book of Dust) by Philip Pullman
I love this book, it’s a prequel to His Dark Materials, Lyra is a baby and living at a convent, hidden away from the Magisterium. But she is discovered, and there is a terrible flood that takes over Oxford. Thankfully Malcolm rescued Lyra but their journey is filled with strange happenings.
4. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
This is a strange and bery short book, I read it for the first time recently, the main thing that goes wrong is the car accident near the end which kills a woman and leads to Gatsby’s death.
5. Nine Perfect Strangers by Liana Moriarty
This book was very interesting. Nine people think they are in for a nice relaxing break when they check in at a wellness centre in rural Australia. But it all goes wrong when the woman who runs the spa decides that no one can truly change their bad habits unless they have come close to death, like she did.
